My Book

 I wrote a book about my experience with DCIS called From Zero to Mastectomy: What I Learned and You Need to Know About Stage 0 Breast Cancer, which was named one of the Best Consumer Health Books of 2010 by Library Journal. The book website includes excerpts, reviews and a link to

  1. Great book! Thank you. I wish I had it when I was diagnosed as it would have calmed my fears A LOT. I was lucky to have a great friend go along the journey with me. She is a 4 year survivor.

    Just want to give a bit more information;
    Please ask your doctors if a skin and nipple sparring mastectomy is a viable option for you.

    Ask about how radiation effects the skin, the possibility of reconstruction and what it would entail. I know a woman who had lumpectomy/radiation for treatment. The cancer came back and is now working through mastectomy, chemo and reconstruction. Play the what if game.. What if the cancer comes back, how will my decisions today impact the treatment in the future.

    My sister-in-law told me very firmly there are two objectives:
    1) get the cancer out of the body
    2) work with the doctors to prevent it from coming back

  2. Jackie, I just saw the write up on your book. I so try to take a break from cancer books, but too many good ones out there. You’ve got my interest and I will more than likely order it as an e-book. Will be my first e-book – as I got a Kindle three months ago from my sister. Just have to figure out how to use it! LOL! I just published a book too – called Hopping Roller Coasters. If you check my website, you’ll see a coupla excerpts from it.

    Oh, and thanks for the 10 Commandments. I saw them once before and love them. And just after New Years is perfect timing! Happy 2012. Rachel

    • Hi Rachel,
      Yes, I hear you on the cancer books. It’s almost a rite of passage! I am glad you want to check mine out though and I would love to hear what you think. I will check yours out too. And thanks for the shout-out on the 10 commandments!
